Education And Networking

GAM's forums and network opportunities represent our core value proposition to members. On the issues that matter most to manufacturers - tax, energy and utilities, workforce, safety and health, technology solutions - we bring together members and stakeholders across the State in a non-partisan manner to facilitate relationships and share knowledge about topics.

Our mission is not limited to advocacy on public policy issues. The Association also serves as an educational resource for its members, hosting seminars and meetings, distributing publications that keep members abreast of the latest issues, and sponsoring scholarships to help train the next generation of manufacturing employees. GAM members also benefit from the networking opportunities available through GAM, as member employees with specific subject-matter area responsibilities can learn best practices from their counterparts at other GAM member companies.

Networks

Participation in GAM Networks provides members with a value-added opportunity to help shape the agenda of the Association while also learning from industry colleagues regarding the relevant issues and current obstacles faced by manufacturers.   Through its networks chaired by senior executives of member companies, GAM helps members operate and compete more effectively.

Opportunities for involvement are beneficial to those with responsibility for human resources, plant operations, safety and health, environment and sustainability, finance and tax, energy, legislative and public affairs.

  • The Energy Network evaluates Georgia Power Company’s requests for rate and fuel cost increases, as well as capital expenditures to meet environmental, generation and transmission requirements and supports the GAM staff in its advocacy role before the Public Service Commission and General Assembly.
  • The Legislative and Public Policy Network develops legislative priorities and interacts with the General Assembly to achieve GAM’s legislative goals.
  • The Environmental Quality Network engages with regulators to adopt responsible and achievable environmental regulations that will safeguard the environment and assists members with environmental compliance and the promotion of environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives.
  • The Tax Network develops proposals to enhance Georgia’s status as a business-friendly state from a taxation standpoint.
  • The Safety and Health Network promotes workplace safety and health through educational seminars, timely communications, the development of standards measuring safety performance and recognizing top-performing member companies at the annual GAM Safety Conference and Awards Luncheon.
  • The Workforce / Plant Management Network informs members on critical workplace issues and ways to mitigate employment costs and risks, identifies best practices that result in operational efficiencies and cost savings, and designs the annual WorkForce / Plant Management Seminar that addresses issues of relevance to those with human resources and plant operations responsibilities.

Each of these networks provides a forum for sharing ideas and best practices, problem solving and raising issues of concern for GAM to address or on which to advocate. The Association also provides individual intervention for its members to resolve issues involving government agencies or other regulatory bodies.
