GAM advocates for the interest of manufacturers before a variety of state agencies in addition to its work before the Georgia Public Service Commission. GAM monitors and responds to actions and proposed rulemakings by the Environmental Protection Division, especially those that impact quality standards and permitting issues related to water and air. The Association also has extensive experience working with the Georgia Department of Revenue on regulations that affect manufacturers. A recent example was GAM’s successful support for properly promulgated rules designed to implement recent legislation (sponsored and supported by GAM) that expanded the sales tax exemption for the machinery and equipment (and spare and replacement parts) used in manufacturing. GAM also works closely with other state agencies where manufacturers’ interests are at stake, including but not limited to the State Board of Workers’ Compensation and the Georgia Department of Labor.
